Performance - Translation Booth, Microphone, Headphones and Speakers

An interpreter working at the European Parliament is invited at simultaneously translate into dutch the original English version of the theatre play “Translations” by Irish author Brian Friel. She receives into her headphones the audio recording of the play staged at a London Theatre and synchronously translates it into the language of the place where the performance takes place. The audio coming out of her microphone is spread among the rooms of the show through a system of hidden speakers. The 3 acts play, written in 1980, deals with a wide range of issues, stretching from language and communication to Irish history and cultural imperialism.
